Why when I turn on the tool the motor
is running but I am not getting any heat from the heat
gun?
The most likely problem is the heating element has burned out or the
batteries are low. Check the battery gas gauge and if it is low then charge the
batteries and check the heat gun again, if you are not getting any heat after
that then the heating element is most likely burned out. Remove the heating element
according to the service manual instructions and check the element for continuity
and replace the element with a new one according to the service manual.
Why does the heat gun not run after I just installed
fully charged batteries?
The batteries have a built in overheating protection system. The
batteries must be at room temperature in order to work properly, otherwise
if they are still hot from the charging the overheating system will not allow
the batteries to be used till they cool down properly. Place the batteries
in a cool area, like a refrigerator until they cool down
sufficiently.
Why does the battery gas gauge show nearly empty after
I just finished charging?
The internal printed circuit board sometimes needs to be reset in order
for the LCD's to show the proper level of charge within the battery.
Check the battery with a voltmeter and you will most likely find that they
are at full charge (13VDC). Go ahead and use the battery, you will not damage
it. Once the battery has been nearly drained down, let the heat gun run just
with the fan motor on, till the battery completely drains, this may take many
hours. Once the battery has been completely drained, place it back on the charger
and fully charge it. Once the charging is finished you should find that the
gas gauge has been reset and is now functioning properly.
How do I adjust the heat of the hot air tool. The
temperature is to hot for my application?
The only way to change the temperature is to change the ceramic heating
element that is inside the hot air tool to a lower wattage-heating element.
Remove the heating element that is in the tool according to the service manual
instruction booklet. Then install a lower wattage-heating element. If you need
to purchase a lower wattage heating element, contact jonathan [at] malcom.com.
I need to get an on/off switch for my heat gun. Can
I get it from you?
The heat gun has been modified during manufacture to be EMI protected and
to prevent emissions from the tool. Any attempt to repair/replace the heat
gun in the field will corrupt these protective measures. The entire gun has
to be replaced. If an element should fail, for whatever reason, the element
can be replaced in the normal routine.
I need to send the tool back for repair. Where do
I send it?
The repair facility for Malcom Company is in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Before you ship Any tools back to Malcom, you should call for authorization and directions. Often, the repairs can be done overnight. You are responsible for shipping, handling and any charges for non-warranty repair. Call toll free 800-289-7505 (401.625-5099 for customers outside the United States) to speak to Don Brown regarding repairs. You can also contact us by e-mail at jonathan [at] malcom.com.
I will need to use the tool continuously for two hours.
Can I use it for that time?
Yes, if you have spare batteries on hand. The tool at full power will drain off the Batteries in about 25-30 minutes. The charging system will recharge the Batteries in 2 hours. To run constantly, the Batteries would be changed every half hour. While not likely to be required in normal use, some jobs might require this operation. Therefore, eight (8) Batteries would keep the tool operating for an extended period without harm. |
